Say WHAT????!!?? I had no idea. The writer on the eMarketer blog says, “According to data provided to eMarketer by Nielsen, traffic to Twitter.com was down a dramatic 27.8% between September and October 2009, falling to 18.9 million unique visitors. Nielsen is the latest in a list of research firms reporting declines at Twitter.com. comScore said unique visitors were down 8.1% in October, while Compete reported a 2.1% decline.”

Black Friday: America Shopped More, Spent Less

More people showed up at the malls this year than last. That’s good. But they didn’t spend as much per person. That’s not so good. According to Sarah Mahoney, posting on the Media Post Daily website, “A survey released Sunday by the National Retail Federation/ BIGResearch says that despite the increase in traffic, average spending fell to $343.31 per person from $372.57 a year ago.”

Coremetrics Benchmark Reports

Cyber Monday Online Spending Exceeds 2008 Levels! According to Coremetrics Benchmark, “The U.S. online retail sector reported strong sales results on Cyber Monday (Nov. 30) 2009 compared to the same period last. This analysis, delivered as part of Coremetrics’ second annual Cyber Monday Benchmark Report………… Consumers spent more per online order ($180.03 versus $170.19 for an increase of 5.8 percent) compared to Black Friday 2009.”

Social Media Marketers Declare Success

Google loves to change the rules. According to Barry Adams, writing on the Search Cowboys Blog, there’s another change in the works. Barry says, “With a website’s load speed likely to become a ranking factor for Google in 2010, webmasters will have to find ways to speed up their website so as to ensure they won’t drop in SERP rankings.”
