In order to make money online by blogging there are two schools of thought as to when the best time is to monetize the blog. On the one hand you could immediately start to market to your readers upon launch. Now this makes sense since earning an online income is why you’ve started the blog to begin with. On the other hand there are those who feel it is best to first establish a reader base before introducing any type of online marketing techniques.

On the surface it would seem pretty obvious as to what approach to take if earning an online income is the objective behind your blogging.

Well even though managing a blog over a period of time without the intent to make money seems a little strange it does pose some interesting advantages.

Let’s have a look at 3 compelling reasons it would be to your advantage to DELAY monetizing your blog:

EASIER TO CREATE ‘COMMUNITY’

The very basis behind blog popularity is the ability to interact with other visitors and the site owner WITHOUT the distractions of online advertising. Freedom from sales pitches and the opportunity to contribute concerning content of interest to the reader is what most visitors expect at a blog.

Online advertising of any kind will hinder that ‘cozy’ and ‘protected’ feeling visitors are expecting from a blog. As a result it may slow the growth of blog readership since many may not feel as comfortable with these distractions.

EASIER to DEVELOP LOYALTY

With good content and the implementation of effective online marketing techniques to attract traffic most blogs can expect to grow quickly. The interaction of both readers and the site owner through blog comments left and also responded to a certain degree of familiarity develops. This spawns a feeling of camaraderie and loyalty between and amongst all participants. This loyalty then results in readers returning and in fact with their continued participation they in effect are helping to build and improve the blog.

At this point the feeling of community is in full bloom and continues to feed upon itself to grow the blog even more. Now you have greater participation, more input, and even referrals from the existing subscription base are arriving. It is of utmost importance that the site owner continues to take advantage of blog comments left and act upon them to improve the blog. These comments are the readers telling you what they want; all you need to do is respond.

ENHANCES FUTURE MARKETING EFFORTS

This communal feeling and the loyalty that now exist has given the blog owner tremendous momentum upon which to launch a money making blog. Readership resistance to any marketing attempts will be minimized due to the trust that has developed. In fact sales conversions should be very high as also should be profits.

Blog marketing relies upon the trust and familiarity that the blogging community is noted for. A blog not monetized will generally gain a greater and more immediate acceptance amongst visitors thereby leading to a faster growth rate.

To make money online it will always involves a certain amount of trust from your customers. In order for them to respond positively to any online marketing efforts they’ll need to believe in either you or the product. By not monetizing your blog from the outset you should be able to develop this trust quicker. This will in turn lead to greater sales with less effort in the future.

By: TJ Philpott

About the Author:

Curious as to whether you should host your own blog, or blog from a remote server? This is a question more and more people are asking themselves after witnessing just how far the blog has come. Note that there are just as many disadvantages as there are advantages to doing both. But being experienced in a little programming, we believe blogging on your own server is far more advantageous for a couple of key reasons.

Reason #1: Limited Blogging Resources and Tools

Posting content through a remotely hosted blog requires that you relinquish a tremendous amount of control over how messages look and work. This is mainly because a remotely hosted blog by design is built to accommodate hundreds of thousands of bloggers. For such a big volume of activity, it can only afford to offer the very least. A blog that offers an extensive amount of features to a large number of people consumes much more resources than what its own servers can provide — ultimately running the risk of major crashes.

Even something as simple as a low-graphic poll can consume an insurmountable amount of bandwidth if over 100,000 bloggers decide to offer one to their visitors. Imagine for example how much bandwidth a popular blog already consumes. **Popular** blogs can consume anywhere from two to three times that a week. If a blog server hosts 500 popular blogs, its capabilities would reduce with each use of a simple poll!

Resources simply aren’t an issue with a self-hosted blog these days. With your own server, you can deck out your blog with as many plugins and widgets as your heart desires without having to fear server crashes or time outs. In fact, you shouldn’t consume any more bandwidth with your own hosted blog than you would consume with your own hosted website.

Reason #2: Limited Money Making Opportunities

We couldn’t count the number of people who want to monetize their blogs if we wanted to. The simple fact is that everyone and his “mom” wants to monetize their blog but the ugly reality is that many (free) remotely hosted blogs don’t allow it. Limited resources could play a factor in this restriction, however since most monetized campaigns call upon the resources of a 3rd party, this restraint is mostly censorship. Blogs that curb 3rd party ads generally want to limit advertisements to their own products and/or services.

With your own blog of course, you can advertise whatever, whenever, where ever. You’re only restricted by your conscience (or by the data revealed from your visitor stats) and the only policies that you have to follow are the policies of your 3rd party ad providers. This accordingly opens doors for tremendous opportunities with Adsense, Amazon, and any number of the hundred other affiliate schemes we have available.

An example restriction that you’d still have to watch for — even with your own blog — is Adsense’s restriction against multiple ads. Although your own blog gives you the freedom to advertise what you want, Adsense restricts you from advertising more than a specific number of Google ads at a time and advertising Google ads with other competitive schemes like Bidvertiser. We find that Google ads used in conjunction with Amazon books ads, Clickbank affiliate links, and AuctionAds eBay products create a nice restriction-free mix of quality wares.

You will of course want to experiment. Just remember that all the plugins that your own blog comes with helps create a unique visitor experience. Open opportunities often lead to abuse, so keep a watchful eye on how your audience reacts to the ways that you customize your blog. Don’t overdo it with ads and don’t overburden your visitor’s Internet connection with unnecessary plugins.

By: Gobala Krishnan

About the Author:

Some time ago I read an article about the tremendous growth that blogging was experiencing and it really caught my attention. I feel like I have a lot to talk about and a blog seemed like a perfect venue to write some of the things I wanted to share. I took the plunge and created my own blog and I am very glad that I did. Maybe you are considering blogging as well. Here are some answers to the common questions about blogging.

Who Should Blog?

I think that everybody has something to say. If you have something to say then you should have a blog. You might be asking, “What would I write about” Good question. Here are some answers. What are your hobbies? What are you passionate about? What do you consider yourself an expert in? What do you find yourself talking about? Are you interested in politics? Can’t get enough news talk radio or TV? Love football, basketball, baseball, hockey, NASCAR? Fascinated by celebrities? Love to cook? Love to travel? Raising kids? Watching movies? Reading books? You can start a blog about anything that you are interested in. Write good articles and people will come and read them. Most blogs also allow their readers to post comments on the articles, which has the added impact of building a nice online community.

What is a blog?

A blog (short for web log) is like an online journal. There is a lot of free software available that makes running and maintaining a blog very easy. A blog takes the articles you write (called posts) and organizes them by date and category so that people who visit your blog can easily find, read and enjoy them.

Why a blog?

A blog is not only a great way to talk about your ideas; there are also some very real possibilities of making money. There are programs like Google Adsense, Affiliate Programs, Click Banks, and opportunities to sell articles that you write. A blog is also a lot simpler and quicker to set up than a traditional web site.

When should I start?

There is no time like the present! If you are interested in blogging then I want to encourage you to go for it. There are plenty of available options when it comes to getting started. There are places where you can get a free blog site. There are places to get hosted blog sites. If you are planning on trying to make money from your blog than you should probably consider going with a web-hosting company where you pay a small monthly fee. With some of the free sites there are restrictions about the way you monetize (make money) from your site.

How do I get started?

The Internet is filled with information to help you learn all that you need to get your blog off the ground. Do a little research and then take your own plunge. I am sure you will be glad that you did.

By: Stephen Lawes

About the Author:

Blogging for dollars might sound like the latest game show or some new drinking game, but it’s the latest craze to hit the Internet. Bloggers began blogging for a number of reasons, but as the blog movement has increased in popularity, they have found ways to monetize their blogs and are seeing their commitment pay off.

Whether a blogger’s focus is to communicate with customers or just to have fun, they have begun looking at ways to earn revenue from their blogs. The most popular ways for bloggers to earn some added cash for their pet projects are:

1. ) Google Adsense in Blogs

Google AdSense allows webmasters to dynamically serve content-relevant advertisements in blogs. If the visitor clicks one of the AdSense ads served to the blog, the website owner is credited for the referral. Webmasters need only to insert a Google-generated java script into the blog or blog template. Google’s spider parses the AdServing blog and serves ads that relate to the blog’s content. Google uses a combination of keyword matching and context analysis to determine what ads should be served.

2. ) Affiliate Programs (Product Endorsements)

Affiliate Programs work when an affiliate web site receives income for generating sales, leads, or traffic to a merchant website. Generally, bloggers will mention or endorse specific products and if site visitors purchase the product, bloggers will receive a portion of the sale.

3. ) Product Promotion

Businesses use blogs to detail how specific features or product add-ons can increase functionality and save time. Content-rich product promotion will help with search engine placement. Google AdSense allows webmasters to dynamically serve content-relevant advertisements in blogs. Banner Ads

While less popular than in the past, websites with high traffic levels can still earn decent revenue by selling banner space.
Blogging is big business today and getting started as a blogger is easier than ever! Once you have a blog, you can use a number of simple and free techniques to drive traffic to your blog. Here are some EASY and EFFECTIVE means to make money off your blog and turn it into a profitable venture today!

Google AdSense: Google’s AdSense is a popular option among bloggers and web marketers by placing ads throughout their blog. Once you have signed up with Google, you are given a code which you need to put on your blog. Following this, Google will display relevant ads on your blog and you earn money for every click on the ad. Although it was a very profitable option until a few years ago, Google has tightened its rules. However, advertising remains one of the most popular blog monetization techniques and you can take advantage of options like:

• Yahoo! Publisher Network

• ValueClick Inc

• Tribal Fusion

• Indeed

• AdSonar

Sell Products on Your Blog: Apart from selling informative guides and e-books, you can use your blog to sell T-Shirts and other merchandise depending on the blog you are marketing. Find out more about your options at CafePress and GoodStorm [Which has been acquired by Zazzle recently]. By selling products, you can give your blog visitor a chance to shop and you can encash on the merchandising opportunities.

Affiliate Programs: If you have an industry specific blog, you can take advantage of affiliate programs of companies which are selling the products you are discussing on your blog. All you have to do is recommend or link these products through your blogs. The most common affiliate merchant used by bloggers worldwide is Amazon.com. You could also use ClickBank, iTunes Affiliates and LinkShare Corp.

Sponsored Posts: You can choose from a number of programs that allow you to choose what you will blog about, including a number of products and services. You can take a look at ReviewMe, Blogsvertise, Smorty and Payu2Blog for complete information on sponsored posts for your blog.

Consulting Services: Depending on your level of expertise you can offer consulting services on your blog for an hourly fee. All you need to do is create a page outlining your services with a standard contract and details on accepted mode of payment.

Seek Donations: You can also seek donations if your blog has a loyal user base and a large volume of visitors who are constantly commenting on the usability of your blog posts. Remember, if you are seeking donations; don’t use ads on your blog. You’ll just come across as a greedy blogger, with the sole intention of blog monetization.

Sell Your Blog: The most extreme blog monetization method, this is the best option for a blogger who blogs primarily for profit. All you need is a good blog with a good amount of traffic. Log on to Sitepoint Marketplace or eBay to find a buyer for your blog.

If you’re passionate about blogging, you can find a number of ways to monetize your blog as well.
If you’ve been in Internet Marketing for a while, you undoubtedly have thousands of articles gathering digital dust in your hard drive. Some you paid for, some you got free from various giveaways, and some were freebie bonuses accompanying products you purchased. You had good intentions: “Someday I’ll use these to build a web site or blog”, but they are still sitting there, unused, after all these many months.

Well, guess what? “Someday” has arrived.

Now there is a very easy way to make money from those articles. You need to do two easy things.

First, set up a blog with a subject or theme related to something you want to promote. That could be a web site, a single product, a mall, whatever. Setting up a new blog at Blogger takes two minutes, typically.

Second, you should find products to promote at ClickBank, PayDotCom, Commission Junction, or any other product supplier. You’ve probably got a list of affiliate links already.

There are several PHP scripts available, ranging in price from free to $75, that will copy articles off your hard drive and into a web site; usually they use FTP (File Transfer Protocol). The problem with these scripts is two-fold. First, the only way to monetize the articles is to put them inside a template that has AdSense or some other means of attracting clicks.

Second, they don’t do anything to the original article, just copy it into a template.

PHP scripts either post articles to a web site immediately, or rely on a scheduled job (typically a CRON job) to run at set intervals. Some ISPs don’t allow CRON jobs.

There is nothing inherently wrong with this concept; some people have made lots of money setting up thousands of pages in this manner.

Getting the site indexed each time you update it, though, is a problem, which is where blogs come in. You see, blogs get indexed very fast, usually the same day, and usually within two hours of an update. Web sites, on the other hand, can take weeks to get indexed.

So once a web site is set up with informative content, AdSense, and some affiliate-linked product ads, an excellent way to promote that site is to make a blog related to the web site theme, and post articles to the blog frequently: daily or several times a day.

If you have a web site about apples, for example, and it has AdSense and Kontera text links and some ClickBank affiliate product ads for apple-related products, then it makes sense to create an apple-related blog and post articles to that blog frequently. This will get the blog indexed daily. It will appear in blog search engines, and pretty soon, free traffic will appear from people interested in apples, apple cider, apple pies, apple tarts, etc. If there are links on your blog to your web site, some of that traffic will visit your web site. If you’ve got a lot of articles about apples sitting on your hard drive somewhere, you can use those to update your blog.

For “apple” in the paragraph above, substitute anything for which you have articles and a web site: golf, motorcycles, relationships, on-line dating, natural health products, whatever.

Posting articles by hand is certainly feasible; it only takes a few minutes per article. But if you’ve got many web sites and thousands of articles, there’s now a simple way to automate that task.

Blogger can accept articles by e-mail. The version of WordPress available at many ISPs can also accept input by e-mail.

A new program for Windows, called “3-Click Article Poster”, will enable you to submit hundreds of articles, automatically scheduled, while automatically appending footers with affiliate links, and substituting affiliate links for keywords in the body of the article. No more “ad cents”, instead you make affiliate dollars.

The program requires a POP3/SMTP e-mail account at an ISP; it does not yet work with web mail services such as HotMail, Yahoo Mail, etc.

You tell the program about your blog: name, e-mail address to which articles should be sent, when you want articles submitted (days of the week, hours of the day), and what to do with articles after they have been submitted (save on your hard drive, delete).

You can also define up to 6 footers that are context sensitive: a footer will be appended if a certain keyword, that you specify, is found in an article. For example, you might have a footer that promotes an ebook about golf swings, triggered by the word “swing”, and another footer promoting a different ebook about putting, triggered by the words “putting” and “putter”.

Similarly, you can define up to 6 different text substitutions; these are affiliate links that are attached to a specified keyword. In a blog about dogs, for example, you might have an affiliate link for a dog training product triggered by the words “aggressive”, “aggression”, “barking”, etc. You can have any number of keywords trigger the same affiliate link, and you can have up to 6 substitutions defined per blog.

The program remembers links and URLs so they don’t need to be re-entered every time, and in general, is designed to be user-friendly and easy to operate. There’s even a simple way to make a hypertext affiliate link.

Once a blog has been defined, you can submit any article with just three clicks (hence the product name):

First click: select an article.

Second click: select a blog.

Third click: press the GO button.

The software reads the article, scans it for the keywords you specified, substitutes your affiliate links, appends a footer, and checks to see if it can be posted now or should be queued for submission later.

You can select any number of articles at one time, and they will be queued and submitted according to the submission rules you define.

The search engines will index your blog very quickly. Your traffic should increase and hopefully, you will make more sales, easily justifying the cost of the software.

By: Douglas Anderson

About the Author:

Blogging can be a great way to educate people in your niche or establish yourself as an expert. You want to brand yourself as an expert, brand your name. Blogging can also be a fun, creative outlet. Blogging can also make you money. In this article I’ve included several ways you can monetize your blog. Use what works for you.

Affiliate Promotions -

It is considered passive promotion when you simply add a banner or text link to your sidebar (with your affiliate link.) There is Software available that you can place Powerful, Attention-Grabbing Photo Ads Around Your Blog Posts. You can use it for your products

or products you are promoting as an affiliate.

Earn with Ads -

You can use AdSense Google’s top ad service. It costs nothing for you to display AdSense ads on your blog. You will probably make more promoting your own products

or an affiliate product.

Some people make a good living displaying Ads. There is an art to displaying them for maximum profit. It you are using Wordpress, with the right software you can make you

ads come alive. Do some research.

To actively promote an affiliate product, you can do a product review-type post. Write about the benefits of the product and how it has helped you (made your life easier, made you extra money, etc.), but also mention little things you honestly didn’t like about it. You want people to know that you tried this product before you endorsed it.

Ad Salesman -

Sell ad space. This way you have control over what ads are displayed. It depends on how much traffic your blog gets as to what you can charge for ad space. A high traffic site might charge $120 per month. That’s money in your pocket and good exposure for the ad owners.

Store -

Sell digital products or hard products. If you have a blog about babies, you can set up a store to sell baby products. You could sell t-shirts and coffee mugs with your logo. Perhaps your store is all ebooks on Internet Marketing.

Amazon has a store front you can use for free. Just show targeted books or items through their widgets on your site. When your readers click on the widget, they go straight to Amazon and Amazon does the rest. You earn a small percentage from each sale.

Pass the Hat -

Use “Buy Me a Drink” or “Buy Me Dessert” script. It’s more attractive to offer people a way to show their appreciation for your informative posts than by begging for a donation.

Blog Flipping -

After you’ve established your blog with some great posts and monetized it with affiliate products and AdSense, you can sell the blog. This is a great idea if you like the process of creating something new but then like to move on. The more you flip, the faster and more efficient you become and that means more money for you.

Decide how you would like to monetize your blog and take action. As with any plan, testing is in order to help you figure out the optimal way to make money with your blog. Keeping a blog is fun, but it can also be beneficial to your wallet.

By: Tom Lee

About the Author:

Even if you already know how to monetize your website with ads and affiliate programs, monetizing a blog is a bit different. A blog will have even more options to choose from for streams of revenue than a traditional website would.

Banner Ad Blocks

Banner ads, like those from Google’s AdSense, are the most common way to monetize a website online, and blogs are no exception here. The same choice apply as with other websites, but with blogs ad placement is even more important. You can have your ads in a sidebar, but that will not give a very high click through rate. Banners at the top of the blog, above content can have a higher CTR, but you will get the highest rate when ads are within posts, inside your content.

Affiliate Programs

Affiliate programs work quite well with blogs, because it is easy to write a post on a focused topic, which in turn increases click through rate for affiliate links. Readers of blogs are often quite ready to click links in posts, because blogs are naturally heavily interlinked. The drawback is that many blog readers tend to be bloggers themselves, and may be more conscious than an average internet user would about the fact that it is an affiliate link you are promoting.

Text Link Ads

Correctly placed sidebar links can generate quite much high quality traffic from a high traffic blog. Blogs are also indexed more often than other websites, which makes text links in blogs very valuable from search engine marketing perspective. Both these reasons help to explain why Text Link Ads, and other similar services are used to a great effect in many blogs. These ads are usually paid monthly, so they can be seen as a more passive source of revenue, since a short term fall in traffic will not have a very significant effect on revenue.

Sponsored Posts

This is where blogs most differ from more traditional websites, and arguably the most important point in this guide. Paid to post services such as Pay Per Post offer opportunities to promote advertisers’ products with a blog post for a pay. The posts will usually pay anything from $10 up, and often make an important share of a given blog’s advertisement revenue. Pay Per Post has a minimum site age of 90 days, but there are alternative service providers you can choose from, if you have a very new blog. Sponsored Reviews accepts even new sites, and they have a long list of available opportunities to choose from.

By: Sutocu

About the Author:

Blog marketing involves different advertising and sales techniques which target the visitors to your site. Considering that blogs have gained their popularity for their fresh and intriguing content it stands to reason that any sales pressure may drive readers away.

The ability to interact with and respond to the readers wishes helps to create and maintain a bond between the site owner and the readers themselves. A certain trust and respect tends to exist in this relationship which is exactly why a blog is an ideal marketing platform. The readers are more receptive to any marketing efforts due to this unique online relationship.

The question here now is when may be the best time to introduce any form of monetization to your blog? Shouldn’t you first develop and kindle the relationship with readers which will make future marketing efforts all the more effective? Introducing any marketing tactics later on would make the transition easier for readers to adjust to and accept.

What if you were to create a blog with the intentions of making money immediately from the first day? Wouldn’t this marketing strategy offend and repel visitors who landed on your site expecting only good content without sales pitches?

Well the feeling here is if your goal is to make money blogging it is probably best to set up your blog to accomplish this from the very first day.

Here are 4 reasons it is to your advantage to monetize your blog from day one:

APPEARANCE

Every new blog faces the same dilemma when it first launches. Without many post or comments the blog appears desolate due to all the empty space. By monetizing from the first day you’ll have varying ads (not too many of course) and perhaps sponsors to give your blog a more ‘complete’ appearance.

TEST MARKETING

Although you should already have planned out your marketing strategy before launch you will also allow yourself more opportunity to see what works. With little readership in the initial stages you don’t have to be concerned with making errors that may have a detrimental effecting larger numbers. Any negative impact from errors will be minimized.

READERS KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT

Concerns of introducing any future marketing strategy and the effect it may have on readers no longer exist. Visitors will become familiar with any marketing efforts from day one. The key here is to be absolutely sure you supply them with good quality content. Your efforts here need to be consistent since you’ll be ‘competing’ with your own on-site monetization efforts which may tend to distract readers.

MAKING MONEY QUICKER

With your monetization strategy already in place so is your ability to immediately make money from your blog. With the proper attention towards maintaining and improving your site you will be making money faster by monetizing your blog from the first day.

Blog marketing is a give and take relationship. Your ability to supply good content consistently is what maintains your reader’s loyalty. By exposing them to various sales efforts you can benefit from the trust they’ve developed for you. By properly balancing your approach you’ll be able to earn an online income while meeting the needs of your readers.

By: TJ Philpott

About the Author:

Choosing how to monetize your blog is a huge decision! There are many different options and it can be difficult to judge which type your readers will respond to most. Take a look at these different options, and make your choice with your readers and the market overall in mind.

Option 1: Adsense

Adsense is probably the easiest way to monetize — and the most difficult! It’s easy because it’s just a simple code that Google gives you (they even automatically match up the ads for you!). You make money as soon as someone clicks on your ads, whether they actually go on to make a purchase or not. Adsense can also be incredibly difficult. You usually get paid a few cents per click and it can take a lot of traffic for it to add up to something that is even remotely worth your while.

Adsense might be a good thing to test, especially as you’re getting your feet wet with blogging. If you’re in the right market and find the right ad positions and colors, it can certainly turn into a nice hands-off income for you.

Option 2: Affiliate Products

Selling products as an affiliate is a great way to make money. For one thing, you get to earn money from the products without having to fulfill them yourself or deal with customer service issues. Nothing is better than that! The returns are usually higher than with Adsense, provided you’re able to find an offer that converts well with the people who visit your website.

You will have to decide if you want to promote digital or physical products. This decision will likely come down to what kind of niche you’re in and how your site visitors will respond.

Option 3: Creating Your Own Products

After you get a loyal following of readers it’s easier than ever to create and sell your own information product! You’ll have to fulfill the orders and deal with customer service issues, but the tradeoff is that you get to keep all the money! You are also the one who knows your readers best, so you’re likely to come up with an offer that converts extremely well since it’s exactly what they want.

You can write an ebook, create a membership site, deliver a paid e-course, create a video series, or record audio. If you want to make the package even better you can combine a few different approaches to add massive value. The options are endless when it comes to monetizing with your own products. Some of your blog readers might eventually want to become an affiliate of yours as well!

As you look at these different options you might start to feel overwhelmed. That’s perfectly normal! It’s hard to know what the best path is when you’re just starting out with a new niche. A good way to get a feel for the best way to do things is to see what other blogs and sites in your niche are doing. You’re not trying to copy them, you’re simply taking note of what works and using it yourself.

By: Turn Blogs To Cash

About the Author:
